The Allerton Traveler
In May 2007 I was commissioned by Immingham Extended Schools and Artlandish to work with year 6 pupils from Allerton Primary School to design a sculpture for their school. The project was designed to enable Year 6 pupils to leave a positive mark on their school before leaving for Secondary school.
The school design sessions were very successful and pupils embraced the project producing some fantastic design models. I took elements of the most inventive models and combined them into a sculpture – The Allerton Traveler. It depicts a tandem vehicle that looks as if it could fly via a series of balloons and glider style wings. It has two riders adorned in the school uniform colours. It was intended to represent a pupils journey through education.
The pupils and staff were 'delighted' with both the work produced during the design sessions and with the final school sculpture.
