Not All Fairies Can Fly
For this series of workshops I worked in collaboration with The Craft Centre & Design Gallery Leeds in four West Yorkshire schools on a sculpture project designed for Year 2 Pupils.
The schools that I worked with on the project were; Ravesthorpe Infant & Nursery School, Hovingham Primary School - Harehills, Armley Primary School, St Peter's Primary School - Central Leeds
My sculptures provided the stimulus to launch children into creating their very own 'flying machine' representations. Children were first asked to collect materials for the project, items from everyday life, small bottles, boxes and containers, buttons, sticks, fabric etc. They were then taught to explore and manipulate the materials and were encouraged that they could construct art out of objects that they would usually throw away.
Teachers were given an inspiration pack prior to the workshop which contained further information on other relevant artists, good visual reference books and preparation activities.
The children's work was then collected and displayed firstly alongside my solo show and then all work was displayed in its very own Craft Centre Children's exhibition in January 2005. From there the Children's exhibition went on to Education Leeds where it was on display until April 2005
